From the quiet comes creation
A space with no distractions or outside "noise." A place to create a new podcast, a new song, a new book or simply a fresh new perspective.
Every day is an opportunity To tune out and create
Sometimes it feels like the world wants you to keep your head down. To scroll and mindlessly stare. To stay "connected" in order to seek validation and attention. I am striving for deeper thought, more critical and independent thinking and more creation. Do you ever feel like the world isn't as unique and creative as it used to be? Do people listen to full-length albums anymore? Will movie theaters be a thing of the past? What happened to face to face conversations? Are people truly listening? Is artistic achievement possible in such a capitalistic and tech driven culture?

The Spiritual Spiral is here to bring awareness to the negative effect of social media and inspire you to turn off your phone and value your free time. We live in a day and age where there's more conformity and less independent thinking. Join artist, writer and yoga teacher Eddie Cohn as he discusses the impact of tech while he interviews musicians, yoga teachers and artists to talk about how social media and the media affects their lives and what we can all do to be more creative and less distracted.

EP 198 - Are Your Thoughts Your Own or Someone else's
With the non-stop information being forced upon us every single day, is anyone able to sit still and think for themselves anymore? Sure, people love to constantly share and promulgate their points of view but is anyone thinking for themselves? I read an excerpt from Steven Pressfield's amazing book, The War of Art, and talk about my own creative process and how I often oscillate from feeling positive to negative about my own craft. I talk about energy and instinct and share a story from this past week where I stopped at a gas station on the border of Arizona and California. As I walked out of the bathroom, I immediately had a feeling in my gut that something could go terribly wrong. I play a clip from the Joe Rogan podcast where Joe talks with Sam Harris about the complexity surrounding the human instinct and why it's so challenging to predict what may happen at any given moment. I read an excerpt from Antonia Martinez's incredible book Chaos Monkey's and wonder how technology and algorithms have impacted the way people think. I end the show by talking about propaganda, how the mainstream news media seemingly wants everyone to think the same way and I play a powerful clip from a recent Joe Rogan podcast where his guest finds some striking similarities between present day and the 1920's.
